The Geely EX5 is certainly cheap, but is it better than what the leading German manufacturers have to offer? Get 20% off Car Vertical using code Carwow: https://www.carvertical.com/carwow Mat’s got his hands on the Geely EX5! It’s a luxurious-feeling, family-sized electric SUV that has class-leading German SUVs such as the Volkswagen ID4 and Audi Q4 e-tron in its sights! The question is, should you choose this all-new Chinese SUV over its more established rivals? Let’s take a closer look.. Starting with the design, it has a fairly inoffensive look and feel from the outside. The £800 paint on the model we’re reviewing certainly helps it stand out, but otherwise it’s relatively generic, with smooth curves across the bonnet. Around the side there’s black cladding around the wheel arches, satin roof bars and chrome window surrounds. Around the back, the design is again relatively nondescript, although we can’t help but see some Macan similarities! On the inside, the EX5 is very well kitted out. There are soft-touch materials throughout the cabin, and the £300 white trim option extra really helps to elevate it. There’s a huge infotainment screen which is crisp, sharp, and easy to use, and the digital dial screen offers all the information you need. The steering wheel is a bit of an odd shape, but it’s still ok to use, and there are some physical buttons to help adjust the climate control. All-in, it’s a well-made interior that feels luxurious. The Geely EX5 comes with a single motor and a 60.2kWh battery, which is good for a range of 267 miles. It has a power output of 218hp, and this power is sent to the front wheels only. The EX5 range starts from just £31,000, with the price rising to approximately £37,700 for the range-topping model we have here (at least, that’s the cost on Carwow at the time of filming). So the question is, would you choose this over one of the more-established, more-expensive rivals such as the Q4? Let us know in the comments!
